On April 6th
2016 the law in the UK changed making microchipping a dog a legal
over a year and half later the law still mentions nothing about cats.
In the past
month alone we have seen an array of beautiful and healthy cats, who are
clearly someone’s pet, being brought into the clinic as lost. They
are vulnerable and scared so we care for them and try our best to find their
owners. It’s heart breaking when they cannot be reunited with their loved ones due one simple fact: They have not been microchipped.
there are many valid reasons why microchipping your cat is important - here’s a
often really independent and are naturally very inquisitive. They
are typically out by themselves to roam their neighbourhood and sometimes their
confidence plays against them. They go wondering further afield making
them more susceptible to getting lost.
think that having a simple collar-and-tag on your cat would be sufficient in
case they get lost. Every little helps but these can fall off and get
lost whilst playing, hunting etc. So in many cases microchips can save the day
when other methods fail.
the neighborhood can be a dangerous business - cats are sometimes hurt whilst
out and about. If they are badly hurt members of the public are often
kind enough to try and take care of a wounded animal and will sometimes bring
cats into one of our clinics. If he or she isn’t microchipped there is no
way for us to contact an owner to advise them that their beloved cat has been
is not expensive, with us it costs only £9.99. It really is a worthwhile investment
enabling you to be reunited really quickly saving a whole lot of stress for you
and your fur baby.
Even if you
have raised your cat as an indoor cat, it's still a good idea to have him/her
microchipped. Indoor cats can sometimes leave the house by accident and due to
their lack of experience in navigating the neighbourhood they are in greater
danger than their streetwise friends!
else to remember…
your pet is microchipped, it is so important to ensure you keep your contact
